Former educator and Miami-Dade Branch of NAACP President  Shirley B. Johnson was recognized for her historic and groundbreaking legacy in education and social justice in Miami-Dade County.

 

Former educator and Miami-Dade Branch of NAACP President  Shirley B. Johnson was recognized for her historic and groundbreaking legacy in education and social justice in Miami-Dade County.

The honor was bestowed on Wednesday, Oct. 2, by District 2 School Board Member Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall. Johnson was joined by her family, friends and members of the community at the school board meeting.

Johnson had a pioneering career for more than 40 years as a teacher and administrator in Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Johnson, as a member of NAACP, paved the way for many Black Americans.
