The residents of North Park in Liberty City have launched the Democratic Women's Club of Miami at Northpark Scott Carver.
Members of the group held their first official meeting on Saturday, Nov. 2 inside the development’s community room.
The residents of Liberty City joined together to form the club in an effort to let their voices and concerns be heard.
"We are the voters, and we want to have a stake in the community, too. Because change has got to come," said Gail Booker.
Membership in the women's club is open to all. Many of the members who have joined in, are former residents of the James E. Scott housing development, which was a part of a federal program known as Hope VI.
Some of the goals of the club are to welcome new members, meet with elected officials, discuss concerns and work together to identify enhancements for the community.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Nov. 9, members and guests of Democratic Women's Club of Miami-Dade hosted District 2 County Commissioner Jean Monestime and his wife Kettia.
He was joined by President Jacqui Colyer, First Vice President Sherley Daphinis and members Julie Becker, Regina Perkins, Carol Ann Mitchell, Francie Peake, Anita Greer, Queen Williams, Rasha Cameau, Vivian Webster, Vivilora D. Perkins Smith, Tori Thomas Gunder and Zola Webster.
