September saw $1.25 million flow into House District 109 from Tallahassee. Of the total $1 million went to county and city of Miami law enforcement.

State Rep. James Bush on Sept. 4, presented the Miami-Dade County Board of Commissioners with a $500,000 check to help fund Operation Blue and Brown.  On Sept. 26, he presented a $500,000 check to the Miami Police Blue and Brown project.

Operation Blue and Brown is a Miami-Dade Police Department violence reduction program. The two agencies work together to address gun-related violence within the Northside District.

The program was implemented in spring 2018, after a spate of deadly shootings in Liberty City that left a 4-year-old girl dead and four teens shot, two of them fatally.

On Sept. 10, Bush presented a $250,000 check to New Horizon Mental Health Center, which is located at 1469 NW 36 St., in Miami.

New Horizons, formerly known as the University of Miami /Jackson Hospital Community Mental Health Program, was founded in 1974. It provides services to persons with common diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, post-traumatic, attention deficit, and substance abuse disorders.
