The Lady Bulls track and field team won a record eighth consecutive Florida State High Schools Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 4A State Championship. It is the 13th win overall since Jackson has been coach.

I think the biggest impact of this championship is that it shows Coach Jackson is committed to excellence that goes beyond the track and field program,

The FAMU women's softball team captured their third straight MEAC title on Saturday, May 14, eliminating arch rival Bethune-Cookman, 8-1 in the second and deciding game of the tournament.

FAMU (27-28) dropped the opening game, 8-3 to the Wildcats (22-31), but unleashed a 12-hit attack in game two sparked by Kieifi Myrick, who had two hits, including a second inning solo homer and two RBI.

Jessica Nathan, Tashayla Irvis, Toni Anderson and Whitney Farris also had two hits apiece for FAMU, with Farris, Anderson, Miesha McBride and Alexis Day each driving in a run.

Leading 1-0 after Myrick's second inning shot, the Lady Rattlers scored six runs in the third to build a 7-0 lead. Read more

Four Florida International University football players have joined the professional ranks, signing free-agent contracts with NFL teams.

Defensive lineman Denzell Perine signed with the Minnesota Vikings; Cornerback Jeremiah McKinnon signed with the Dallas Cowboys; Defensive lineman Lars Koht signed with the Seattle Seahawks; and Cornerback Richard Leonard signed with the Houston Texans.

They journeyed to Pompano Beach for the Florida State High School Track and Field Region competition at Blanche Ely High School.

The first four finishers in each event advanced to the finals at Bradenton IMG Academy on May 6 and 7.

And, yes, the Miami Northwestern Lady Bulls won in smashing style as the Ely Tigers captured first place in the boys

competition.

Lady Bulls Coach Carmen Jackson said in an understatement.

We had 18 kids advance in 13 events. Now, we have to show up, keep our focus, work on our weaknesses.

The Lady Bulls will compete in the following categories: 100- and 300-meter hurdles, 100-, 200- and 800-meter runs, 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 relays, the long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot put and discus.

That much fire power gives the Lady Bulls a reasonable chance to win a record 13th state championship for Jackson, who has also won 11 consecutive Greater Miami Athletic Conference titles. Read more

The Florida Memorial University men's and women's track and field teams performed well at the Sun Conference Track and Field Championship in Miramar.

The men finished in fifth place with 76 points and the women

s team came in fifth with 99 points. Warner University won on the men's side with 186 points and Webber International won on the women' side with 159 points.

A string of four preseason tournament wins and eight regular season victories led the Lady Red Raiders to the District 15-1A championship, since the boys

soccer team won their District two years ago.

The hard work these young ladies put paid off, especially since we have no seniors on the team.
