Chief J.D. Patterson

Miami Gardens Police Assistant Chief J.D. Patterson issued a press conference on Tuesday afternoon at the Miami Gardens Police Department following the double homicide last weekend at Florida Memorial University.

Miami Gardens Police are investigating a double homicide involving two Black men who were shot to death at a private Historically Black University campus.

At a press conference held Tuesday afternoon, Miami Gardens Police Assistant Chief J.D. Patterson addressed the fatal shooting that occurred Saturday around 10 p.m. on Florida Memorial University's campus. Officers responded to the scene where they found two young Black males who were apparently shot. Police believe there may have been an argument between the two leading up to the incident.

Patterson revealed one of the deceased victims as William Boyd but gave no further details on where the man was from, his age or whether he was a student at the university.

No arrests have been made. Patterson indicated that video has since surfaced with a third person involved in the incident and police will continue to follow up with the investigation.

"This is an isolated incident, and we continue to follow up on all of the leads," Patterson said.

The Miami Gardens Police urge anyone with additional information on this incident to come forward.
