Former Vice President and current presidential candidate Joe Biden paid a visit to the Ball and Chain in Hispanic Miami on Sunday, Sept. 15.

About 200 supporters gathered to listen to his remarks outside in a courtyard area. Among them were Congresswoman Donna Shalala, former Sen. Bill Nelson and his wife, Grace; and also, political commentator Ana Navarro-Cárdenas, who is a constant critic of the incumbent President. Biden spoke for about a half hour and then mingled with the crowd.

Biden thanked the gathering of people for coming and said that the upcoming election in November 2020 was going to be different than the other elections had been like because of the man who currently held the seat and whom he had chosen in his administration. Biden said that he didn’t intend to run for the office but heard the words of the marchers in Charlottesville who had carried torches and spewed out anti-Semitic and other remarks. Biden also spoke about the white man who had gunned down Hispanics in El Paso and about the incumbent president’s racist-geared language that was directed at a minority of the people in the United States. Biden spoke about the past in America where racist talk and language had been directed at Catholic immigrants. He said there was a time in this country where 30,000 people marched down the streets outside the White House.

“They said that Catholics were polluting America, and they had to purify the nation,” said Biden. “It’s not who we are. We have to speak up. Silence is complicity.”

Biden also spoke about the middle class being the backbone of the country, and how the changes in the current administration favored the people on Wall Street and the stockholders, and not the people he supported. He also spoke harshly about Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom he had some dealings when he was Vice President under President Barack Obama. He called Putin a thug, a dictator and a kleptomaniac. Biden spoke of how President Trump wanted Putin to be back in the G-8 and if it wasn’t so preposterous “it would be a reality show.” Biden also said that the United States had three priorities as far as foreign policy: Russia, China and Central America.

“It’s an existential threat to us,” said Biden. “We’ve abandoned our leadership in the world and around the world.”

Biden concluded his remarks by saying that the people in the United States needed to let President Trump know who they were and that they were taking the country back.

“We have to deal with it in a way so that people around the world know who we are,” said Biden. “Everybody knows who Trump is. We have to let him know who we are. We choose science over fiction. We choose truth over lies. We have to let him know who we are. We need to take it all back and lead the world again.”
