DR. EDDIE JEROME STRACHAN, 89, retired architect and visionary, died April 13. He was born on February 5, 1930 in Miami, FL. He graduated valedictorian from Dorsey High School. Eddie earned his B.S. in Architecture from Howard University in 1953, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and the Engineering and Architecture Honor Society. During his senior year, he served as President of the Engineering and Architecture Student Council. Eddie was a Master Mason and served in the Korean War as an Air Force Officer. Eddie later received his PhD in Architecture from Columbia University in 1972. He created and served as president of the Dr. Eddie J. Strachan and Associates design firm for many years. After retirement, he consulted on various design and engineering projects in Miami, nationwide, and abroad. A kind and friendly spirit, he was very committed to his craft and even more so to his family. He loved reading and made reading his hobby. Eddie is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Betty; two sons, Daanen (Shaunda) and Derek (Janee); granddaughter, Daria; sister, Inez Strachan Rowe; sister-in-law, Ruby Hollaway; brother-in-law, William Walker; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
