On Wednesday, Jan. 22, service to the city of Miami police department came to an indefinite halt for Javier Ortiz, a Hispanic police captain who claimed to be a “Black male.” Ortiz has reportedly been suspended with pay pending further investigation. The assertion was made in front of city commissioners during a meeting Jan. 17 that resulted in global news uproar for both its racial slant and audacious delivery.
